Getting into home coffee brewing

July 15, 2026

Picked up a pour-over kit a few months ago after getting tired of the same cup every morning. Started with a basic dripper and a cheap scale, then slowly upgraded from there.

The biggest difference came from grinding fresh beans right before brewing rather than buying pre-ground coffee. Also learned that water temperature matters a lot more than I expected — too hot and the coffee turns bitter fast.

Still experimenting with ratios, but landing somewhere around 1:16 coffee to water seems to work well for my taste. Might write a follow-up once I settle on a routine I like.
